Green Housing Innovation, Sustainable Building

Innovative housing
Affordable or essential housing, usually doesn't bring to mind cutting-edge, architectural innovation. Here, at Community Banks, we know that the challenges surrounding this issue are significant, and the solutions will require bold new approaches.

Under the current real estate and financing conventions, affordable housing is not only hard to find, it's often of questionable quality. Far from town and far from work, this housing wastes travel time, money and natural resources. In the end, living too far from your community causes an overall degradation in the quality of that community. There's a growing group of architects who are experimenting with solutions that are environmentally responsible as well as affordable.

Questioning the Status Quo
We're strong supporters of The Rocky Mountain Institute, an entrepreneurial nonprofit organization that fosters the efficient and restorative use of resources to make the world secure, just, prosperous, and life-sustaining. They do this by inspiring business, civil society, and government to design integrative solutions that create true wealth. RMI brings architects, engineers and designers together to work on a number of projects around the world.

Bringing it Home
At Community Banks, we want to see development of essential housing taking place within our communities. We also believe that innovation in building, in materials, in power systems, and in financing is essential to help improve the quality of lifestyle in our communities now, and in the future.
